Terms of Use
Last updated: 8 September 2026
These terms govern your use of the Battery Intelligence application (“the App”) and its website, created and distributed by Naeem Ahmad (“we”, “us”). By downloading, installing or using the App you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the App.
1. Licence
The App is free and open-source software licensed under the MIT License. The
full licence text is included with the App (LICENSE) and in the project
repository. In case of any conflict between these terms and the MIT License
regarding your rights to use, copy, modify and distribute the software, the MIT
License governs those rights.
You may:
- install and use the App on any number of your own or others’ computers, at no charge;
- inspect, modify and redistribute the source code under the terms of the MIT License.
2. What the App is
Battery Intelligence is a diagnostic and informational utility. It reads battery, power and system information that Windows exposes on your computer and presents it to you, along with derived figures such as a health score, degradation trend, runtime estimate and per-application energy apportionment.
Every value the App displays is labelled by how it was obtained — Measured, Calculated, Estimated (a documented, versioned model) or Unavailable.
3. No warranty; figures are informational only
The App is provided “AS IS”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, as stated in the MIT License.
In particular:
- Estimated and Calculated figures are not measurements. Health scores, degradation trends, runtime predictions, charging-quality scores and per-application energy figures are computed from models and limited data. They can be wrong. Do not rely on them for decisions where an error could cause loss, such as timing critical work around a runtime estimate, or judging whether to replace hardware.
- The App depends on data your hardware and firmware report. Some devices report inaccurate or missing values (for example a cycle count of zero on a worn battery). The App flags what it can but cannot correct bad source data.
- The App is not a substitute for manufacturer diagnostics, a warranty assessment, or professional advice.
4. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will Naeem Ahmad or any contributor be liable for any claim, damages or other liability — including direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, loss of data, loss of profits, or hardware damage — arising from or in connection with the App or its use, whether in contract, tort or otherwise, even if advised of the possibility of such damage. This reflects the allocation of risk in the MIT License under which the App is provided free of charge.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the App for any unlawful purpose;
- misrepresent the origin of the App or remove authorship and licence notices when redistributing it;
- distribute modified versions in a way that implies they are the official release or are endorsed by us.
6. Third-party components and services
The App bundles third-party open-source components, each under its own licence (listed on the App’s About page). The website is hosted on Netlify and the installer is distributed via GitHub Releases; your use of those services is subject to their respective terms. We are not responsible for third-party services.
7. No affiliation
Battery Intelligence is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Microsoft, Google, or any battery, laptop or component manufacturer. Product and company names mentioned are the property of their respective owners.
8. Distribution and code signing
Official builds are published only at
https://github.com/hobbygen/battery-intelligence/releases and linked from
https://battery-intelligence.netlify.app. Builds obtained elsewhere may have
been modified and are not covered by these terms. The installer may not be
code-signed; Windows SmartScreen may warn you on first run. Verify the download
against the published SHA256SUMS.txt if in doubt.
9. Updates
The App does not update itself. New versions, when released, are published at the locations above. You choose whether and when to install them.
10. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. The “Last updated” date will change and the current version will always be available on the website and in the repository. Continued use of the App after a change means you accept the revised terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws applicable in your place of residence, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where a mandatory local law provides otherwise. Nothing in these terms removes any statutory consumer rights you have that cannot be waived.
